Kaleidoscope are delighted to announce the musical event of the year- our 2nd Birthday Party!

2011 has seen us take our bespoke Kaleidoscope Caravan salon throughout the country, as well as continuing to sell out at our regular Odessa Club Kaleidoscope night in Dublin. We want to take an evening to say thank you to our performers, to our audiences and to the city which has taken us into its heart.
We promise you the magical Kaleidoscope cocktail of elegance, excellence and excitement, with a world premiere by David Fennessy, New Dublin Voices, works by Brahms and Gershwin as well as the Pulitzer Prize winning "Different Trains" by Steve Reich. Come and celebrate with us and be part of the Kaleidoscope community.

You will be welcomed into the Button Factory in Dublin city centre from 7.30pm with a drink and some canapés. This is an opportunity to embrace the festive season in style and to say hello to those you've seen in passing all year at Kaleidoscope. Come and meet the many musicians, composers and friends who will be joining us to celebrate our second wonderful year of music making.

The music begins at 9pm as the Irish Saxophone Quartet start the evening swinging, with an arrangement of Gershwin's Three Preludes.
Following this we welcome soprano, Michelle Sherdian to the stage, in a performance of Brahms' Funf Ophelia Lieder as well as an excerpt from Tavener's To A Child Dancing In The Wind

Before the interval, Kaleidoscope co-curators Cliodhna Ryan and Kate Ellis will present the world premiere of a Duo for Violin, Cello and Electronics by acclaimed composer David Fennessy. This commission is supported by the Arts Council of Ireland.

After the interval, we welcome the award-winning New Dublin Voices conducted by Bernie Sherlock. These singers come from many backgrounds but share high levels of experience and musicianship, commitment and above all a love of performing excellent choral music. They will sing a selection of works by Palestrina, Morley and Monteverdi.

To finish the first part of our evening, we have a performance one of the most significant string quartets of our time: Different Trains by Steve Reich, as we bid a fond farewell to the year of the composer's 75th Birthday, which has seen celebrations of his music around the world.
And there's more ......

Our AFTER HOURS SHOW begins with New Dublin Voices, who will take to the stage again to perform some contemporary classics, preparing the way for two of Ireland's most exciting bands: I Draw Slow and Prison Love. We are thrilled to welcome both bands,  renowned for their accomplished songwriting.
I Draw Slow is a five-piece group comprised of vocals, guitar, fiddle, banjo and double bass. The five have created a new sound, rooted in the old time style of the Appalachian Mountains. Drawing on Irish traditional music and modern Americana, they tell dark tales of debauchery and trouble. Prison Love formed late one night round a campfire in a field just the other side of Dunmore East in 2001. Their passion for bluegrass, old-time, gospel and Cajun music has been enjoyed at major festivals all across the country, Europe and in the US.

Come and raise a glass to Kaleidoscope and celebrate another wonderful year with us!
