After last month’s wonderful first Kaleidoscope of 2012, we bring you an evening of spellbinding music performed by some of Irelands most prestigious musicians this February 1st. Join us to escape the cold winter nights and delve into your imagination in the intimate surroundings of the Odessa Club.

To open the evening, some of Ireland’s finest Renaissance and Baroque musicians will join forces to perform a Pavan and Galliard by the wonderful English composer William Brade. Following this, renowned Irish 8-string guitarist Redmond O’Toole, will play his exquisite transcriptions of two sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti. To finish the first half of the evening, Kaleidoscope is delighted to welcome internationally celebrated vocalist Iarla O’Lionard to perform traditional material. Time Out New York said of Iarla “His voice will astound you. It soars - and it's as profound, simple and beautiful as wild horses... Genius is the operative word here...Count yourself lucky to hear an artist like this once in your lifetime.”

After the interval, we continue with a performance of Ian Wilson’s ‘Bewitched’, a composition inspired by the experiences of patients and staff in the Stroke Unit of the Adelaide and Meath Hospital in Tallaght, Dublin, where Wilson spent 10 weeks as composer-in-residence. The piece will be performed by soprano Deirdre Moynihan, Kaleidoscope co-curator Cliodhna Ryan and Kenneth Rice on violins, Joachim Roewer on viola and Malachy Robinson on double bass. To end the evening the newly formed ‘Highly Strung Cello Quartet’ comprising of some of Ireland’s most accomplished cellists, Aisling Drury-Byrne, Annette Cleary, Sokol Koka and Sheelagh Harte, will serenade us into the night with performances of Wagner’s emotionally stirring Tannhauser, Debussy’s beautifully serene ‘Prelude La Fille Aux Cheveux de Lin’ and Astor Piazolla’s charming ‘Oblivion, Inverno Porteno’.
