This March, Kaleidoscope Night is delighted to present an exceptional evening of exciting and inspiring music.

The night will begin with H.I.F. Biber’s compelling Mystery Sonata X "Crucifixion", a work that has intrigued listeners for the last three centuries. It will be performed by the acclaimed duo, Maya Homburger (Baroque Violin) and Barry Guy (Double Bass).Following this we will hear “Sondas” by Niall Vallely, a piece written for Kaleidoscope co-curator and cellist Kate EllisThe piece is influenced by Eastern European traditions and Vallely says that in the music he has “played with the interaction of the sounds of the pre-recorded cellos and the live instrument.” After this, award-winning Irish composer and violinist Andrew Hamilton will perform his piece “Product No.1”.

To begin the second part of the evening, the former principal cellist of Irish Chamber Orchestra, Juliet Welchman, and current principal bassist of the Irish Chamber Orchestra,Malachy Robinson, will play the exquisite, yet rarely performed Duo for Cello and Double Bass in D Major by G.A RossiniMaya Homburger and Barry Guy will then return to the stage to play one of Barry’s own compositions “Tales of Enchantment”. This will be followed by a performance of Wayne Siegel’s “42nd Street Rondo” by two of Ireland’s leading percussionists, Steve Kelly and James Dunne. This time, it will be the audience who bring the evening to a close, as we invite you to perform Steve Reich’s “Clapping Music”, led by Steve and James.
