After an amazing summer aboard the Kaleidoscope Caravan, we have unpacked our bags are bedding into The Odessa Club for the autumn, beginning the season with another varied and exciting programme of music as we welcome you into our bespoke salon with music to excite and entice.

We open with soprano Michelle O’Rourke and Kaleidoscope co-curator and cellist Kate Ellis performing an interpretation of the incidental songs “Music For A While" and “From Rosy Bow’rs” by Henry Purcell. This is followed by yet another Kaleidoscope world premiere by one of Ireland’s finest composers, Garrett Sholdice, entitled "Raga 1". Vocalist Lauren Kinsella, drummer Simon Roth and bass player Mick Coady are flying from London especially to bring this work to Dublin audiences. Before the interval, we have the honor of hosting a performance of the stunning Bachianas Brasileiras No.1 by Villa Lobos. Brought together by Mary Barnecutt, eight of Ireland's busiest cellists have joined forces, driven by a passion for this legendary yet rarely performed piece. We have the task of fitting them into our intimate space, but having done it before with eleven clarinetists, we welcome, even embrace the challenge!
After the interval, we bring you another rarely heard but extraordinary work by Igor Stravinsky. "Four Russian Peasant Songs", written for four voices will be performed in the original Russian by Michelle O' Rourke, Deirdre Moynihan and sisters Linda and Irene Buckley. These haunting and eerie songs are of a type traditionally sung by peasants during Winter Solstice fortune-telling rituals. To finish the evening, we are delighted to welcome Zahr, an ensemble created by Italian pianist Francesco Turrisi and percussionist Andrea Piccioni. The primary focus of Zahr is the influence that Arabic music has had in many countries touched by the Mediterranean Sea. Zahr combines Italian traditional music, Arabic and Turkish music with contemporary European jazz and features Iraqi oud virtuoso, Khyam Allami and the captivating Italian traditional singer Lucilla Galeazzi. They are about to tour the country and launch a new CD, all who come are fortunate to experience them in the intimate setting of The Odessa Club.
So, come and embrace the warm and mellow onset of Autumn, with a stunning night of music celebrating the old and new, excellence and above all, passion for music.
